GUIDELINES FOR NOMINATION AND SELECTION OF 2025 AWARDS
Please note that the Awardee photos and video are scheduled for Wednesday, November 20, 2024 evening during the AACC Planning Meeting beginning at 6 p.m. in Wheeling, Illinois.
On one reference to this an incorrect date of November 18, 2024 on the nomination form was used. Sorry for any confusion.
Scheduling Notes
Honorees are expected to accept in person at the February 22, 2025 awards ceremony. Ticket purchase information is provided on the website www.aacchicago.org .
Awardees are invited to be photographed, and briefly filmed at the November 20, 2024 monthly meeting in Korean Cultural Center of Chicago (KCCoC), 9960 Capitol Drive, Wheeling, IL 60090 at 6-9 pm.

The Exemplary Community Service Awards are given to an individual in Illinois who has demonstrated exemplary and extraordinary service to the community. They are presented each year by the Asian ethnic communities that participate in the Asian American Coalition.
These awards recognize the importance and value that each of the Asian American Coalition communities places upon those who are dedicated and committed to serving the needs of the particular community.
In selecting an award recipient, each community honors an individual whose work on behalf of that community has had a significant and positive impact upon the members of the community and has benefited the community as a whole.
2025 EXEMPLARY COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD
1. Nominee must be a current resident of Illinois and must have been a resident of Illinois for a minimum of two consecutive years.
2. Nominee must be sponsored by an organization that has been established for a minimum of two years.
3. Only one nomination may be made per community; multiple nominees per community will not be accepted.
4. Nominations deadline is October 16, 2024 C.O.B.
The Youth Who Excels Awards are open to high school or college age students, ages 14 to 22. They are presented each year by each of the Asian ethnic communities that participate in the Asian American Coalition of Chicago. These Illinoisian students have demonstrated extraordinary academic achievements and scholarship excellence, extra-curricular activities and participate at civic/community activities.
2025 “YOUTH WHO EXCELS” AWARD
1. Nominee must be a current resident of Illinois and must have been a resident of Illinois for a minimum of two consecutive years.
2. Nominee must be sponsored by an organization that has been established for a minimum of two years.
3. Only one nomination may be made per community; multiple nominees per community will not be accepted.
4. Nominations deadline is October 16, 2024 C.O.B.
2025 PING TOM MEMORIAL PAN ASIAN AMERICAN AWARD
The Pan Asian Ping Tom Memorial Award was created by the Asian American Coalition to promote Pan Asian American ideals. It is intended to recognize those whose vision and service go beyond one ethnic group. It is important to recognize the outstanding leadership that benefits the Asian American community as a whole.
It honors the work and achievements of Asian Americans in Illinois who have single handedly made noteworthy accomplishments and contributions to the well-being of all Asian Americans.
The Pan Asian American Award embodies the true spirit of building bridges across cultural diversity.
1. Nominee cannot be a member of the Host Community; this year’s nominees cannot be of Indonesian ancestry.
2. Nominee must be sponsored by an organization that has been established for a minimum of two years.
3. The AACC Board of Directors will meet and select this year’s honoree out of nominations received.
4. Nominations deadline is October 16, 2024 C.O.B..
2025 SANDRA OTAKA MEMORIAL GRAND ASIAN AMERICAN AWARD
The Sandra Otaka Memorial Grand Asian American Award was established to recognize public officials who have distinguished themselves through outstanding contributions to the Asian American community and/or through meritorious service supporting the AACC’s vision and mission.
This award is for those high-ranking public officials at the national, state or local levels, either elected or appointed, who are of non-Asian descent and have made significant contributions to the Asian American community. This includes implementing public programs that promote unity among Asian Americans, initiating projects that make public awareness of Asian American issues, or exemplifying a high level of leadership that brings about positive changes in Asian American communities across America.
1. Nominee cannot be a member or an officer of the host community; this year’s host is the Indonesian American community.
2. Nominee must be sponsored by an organization that has been established for a minimum of two years.
3. The AACC Board of Directors will meet and select this year’s honoree out of nominations received.
4. Nominations deadline is October 16, 2024 C.O.B.
2025 ASIAN AMERICAN ENTREPRENEURIAL AWARD
The Asian American Entrepreneurial Award was initiated by the Asian American Coalition to recognize a distinguished Asian American Entrepreneur. This is someone who has started a small business, going thru business development, and then achieving a successful high reputation in the forefront of the business meccas, representing Asian American business flagship at the most well-known corporate rankings.
The Asian American Entrepreneurial Award is for those successful Illinoisian notable business figures who are of Asian descent, with Entrepreneurial spirits in the business world, and have made significant contributions to the Asian American community and the economic development at national, state or local level.
The Asian American Entrepreneurial Award embodies the true Entrepreneurial spirit of an Asian American business owner.
1. Nominee cannot be a member of the Host Community; this year’s nominees cannot be of Indonesian ancestry.
2. Nominee must be sponsored by an organization that has been established for a minimum of two years.
3. The AACC Board of Directors will meet and select this year’s honoree out of nominations received.
