Highlights: Announcement by Illinois Governor James Thompson of creation of the Asian American Advisory Council to the Governor. In 1984, the Coalition also sponsored a public forum for then incumbent U.S. Senator Charles Percy and challenger Congressman Paul Simon for the 1984 Senatorial Election. Over 450 Asian Americans had first hand opportunity to hear both candidates present their views on national issues and on matters directly affecting the Asian American community.
